The CASAS is for students whose native language is not English. It measures English skills in:

• Reading
• Listening

Who Should Take the CASAS Test?

The State of Florida requires students to take admissions or placement tests before entering a program. The test you take depends on the program you wish to enter. If you are entering the ESOL Program as a U.S. citizen or resident alien, you should take the CASAS, which meets the state's requirement for students entering an ESOL program.

CASAS is not an admissions test.
You can enroll in ESOL no matter what score you earn.

SCC uses your CASAS score to:

• Determine your English skill level, which will reveal what program level you should begin your studies. Beginning at the right level is critical to learning English.
• Identify your strengths and weaknesses. At SCC, we want you to succeed. By knowing what areas you need help in, your instructors can work with you to strengthen your skills in those areas.

What Should I Do If I Haven't Yet Taken the CASAS?
