New Phone Information

By December 19, 2008, all SCC sites will share the same phone system – with a major benefit to include the installation of phones in each classroom on the Sanford/Lake Mary and Oviedo campuses for emergency calling and as part of an emergency broadcast system. Individual employee phones on S/LM will also be switched over to the new phone system to match what has been done at all the other sites.

What does this mean for employees?

Employees will:

• keep the same extension number,
• maintain the same long distance code,
• have calling name display across all sites,
• be able to use distribution lists to any mailbox at any SCC location,
• be able to use the voicemail message forward feature to any SCC mailbox,
• continue to use 4 digit dialing to all sites,
• continue to use the same outbound or 911 calling.

Order and Process for Installation:

Installation of new phones will begin the week of October 27th in the CTS department and the Help Desk. From there, we will continue through each department/building campus-wide until complete. CTS will visit each office/area to remove your old phone and replace it with a new multi line speaker/display phone. E-mails will be sent out approximately one week in advance of installations in each area.

Important Notice about Voicemail:

Because we are completely changing systems, employees’ old voicemail boxes will not be available after your new phone is installed. The password on the new phone will be a default password and you will need to change it and record new greetings the first time you log in. VERY IMPORTANT - Your old messages in the current system CANNOT and WILL NOT be forwarded to the new system. They will be deleted. You are responsible for recording to an external source any message you desire to save.

Training:

Employees will have the opportunity to attend training before your phone is installed. CTS will offer training classes with live phones, online tutorials, and an open lab for you to visit. The open lab (V106) will be available each Monday and Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. beginning the week of October 27th and continuing through the week of December 15th. Please drop in at your convenience during any of these times.
